Friends

Hello !

This post is a little different than some of the earlier ones.  I don’t usually write poems. Especially because I never like the end product. But this reads a little like prose and it does fit into the category of musings…

Thanks for indulging me.

Kathy

Friend

Friend, be my friend forever. Be my soul mate and my blood sister.

Understand me–for I need care, and especially love.

Laugh at my jokes, marvel at my talents, and listen to my woes.

Be kind and be patient. Forgive my transgressions because I am so human.

Friend, let me be part of your life.

Then we can share joy, and laughter, and even sorrow with one another.

We will make a journey into one another¾
across time and place, in the here and now,

and in all of our tomorrows.

Then we will be forever friends.

About Kathy

I grew up in Buffalo,New York the second eldest child in a family that eventually included eight children. The neighborhood was an Irish-American enclave. These two facts explain a great deal about me. I spent many years as a teacher who really thought of herself as a writer.

Interesting things about true friends: They laugh when you laugh…they cry when you cry….they are real when you need “realness” and tell it like it is. Most importantly they are faithful.

    Miss you, my friend

This felt like a prayer to me. I really liked it.

Love the last 4 lines, especially the image of a journey into one another even if friends are not physically close. Gets to the essence of friendship. Thank you for a lovely poem.

Hi Mary Ann, thanks for the input. I really value your observations because you are such a fine poet. I don’t think this is what I do best–but it seems to have touched some hearts. That is gratifying to me as a writer.

Thanks, Donna. It was hard for me to decide to post that as I feel that poetry is not my strong suit. I appreciate your comment.

  7. The Friendship poem would make a fantastic
Greeting card insert. Now that you are also
trying your hand at water colors, combine the two.
I would buy some of your cards, because I know
friends who would love to receive them.
    Kudos, Kathy
    Love,

Beautifully written, Kathy. Having a “true” friend is truly special in one’s life!! I agree with Bobbie, it would make a wonderful greeting card.
